Those Golden Stairs
words by Sallie Bolton, music by Keaton Smith
Note: We lost Sallie in October of 2006 and will sorely miss her godly example. If anyone has a digital picture of Sallie, please email it to Su. Oh when we climb those Golden Stairs
When we see Jesus standing there
With arms outstretched and open wide
"Worthy Child, please step inside"
Chorus: "So come on in, sit right down
And I'll give you a robe and a crown
Put these slippers on your feet
And walk with me, on these golden streets"
He'll cast away your many fears
Dry your eyes and your tears
You'll receive your annointed wine
And with me shall forever dine
We'll meet our loved ones once again
Sing God's praises without end
And we'll gather around the throne
Praise the Lord, we're gathered home
David Broughton: David has been singing his whole life, but it has only been in the last ten years that David entered into the ministry. He is proud to currently be the pastor of Cole's Branch Baptist Church, and loves his second ministry as a True Believer. "The only regret I've ever had is not surrendering to preach sooner."
Linville Broughton: "My favorite memory is hearing Mom and Dad (Edna and Stanley Broughton) sing around the old piano. They had a spirit that could only come from knowing the Savior." Linville has spent the past few years learning to play the mandolin, yet his greatest instrument is his voice. Clean, mellow, sincere, and humble--qualities of a man who has experienced God's grace.
Steve Broughton: Steve has been with other groups both Bluegrass and country for decades. "I liked all the people I sang with, but I told them I only wanted to sing Gospel. If they went in another direction, so did I." Steve's unique tenor sound has made him a favorite local artist. There is hardly a church we've sung at that hasn't requested "The Lighthouse".
Su Smith: Su started playing the bass in 2000. "At first I didn't think I would be able to play those big strings. Then Julie Mercer showed me what to do and now I don't think I could play anything else." Su is possibly the most musically skilled of the group. She received a musical degree from Auburn in 1995. There is almost no part of our music that Su hasn't helped, and she is the first to say, "Yes we can!!!"
Keaton Smith: "I want the banjo to add to the music, not distract from it. Quality of sound is all I want. Sure I can play really fancy licks, but it's not about me, it's about our Lord!" Keaton started playing the banjo at 15 and sang in church all his life. He is presently the music director at Candle Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. "For me, music is the way I tell Jesus that I love Him!"
